Let the Damn! games begin!
Finally, it’s time to welcome you all to the 4BB/Damn! Remix Competition 2009 – in collaboration with Pope Records, Universal Music, BeatBattle and Music Super Circus, we gonna have some real fun!
WHAT: The competition is all about remixing one or two songs taken from Damn!’s “Let’s Zoom In” album – choose between the cuts “Get Your Grown Man On” and “Headstone”…or get your freak on with both!
To make it easier for you, both songs are available as separated tracks – the competition starter’s kit includes: original songs, instrumental versions and vocals/horns tracks! This remix competition is tricky enough as it is, since neither of the tracks up for rework are done with click tracks – lucky for you, Damn! is one helluva tight outfit. HOW: The rules are simple – have as much fun as possible with the Damn! songs. You can choose to tweak them any way you want to…lo-fi vintage soul, sweaty 4 AM dubstep, hardcore hip-hop or cut-up hi-tech electrofunk – whatever genre tickles your fancy! Outside drums, keys and bass are cool…samples, sound bites and scratches, no problem. The only BIG no-no is beat biting – stay original, do your own thing…upfront beat jacking might lead to disqualification!
All contestants are allowed to send in two competition entries – one for each song…but if you choose to focus on just one of the songs, that’s OK too!
Send your Damn! remix to this address (or rather a link to your entry…could become hard to handle size wise). All entries must be MP3 encoded at 320 kbps!
WHEN: Deadline is Sunday, November 8th – you got a full month to complete your remixes. The Sunday after that, November 15th, the jury will be presenting the finalists…and finally, the Remix Champion will be crowned on Sunday, November 22nd!
JURY: The jury selection process is in full swing…apart from the obvious representatives from Damn!, Pope Records/Universal Music, 4BB and BeatBattle, we’ve already secured participation from esteemed music specialists such as Yes Yes Y’all and Music Super Circus, and are knee-deep in negotiation with several more – just to be able to thoroughly cover as many genres as possible. The final jury will be presented as soon as the selection is completed!
GRAND PRIZE: Apart from the honor of being crowned the best damn remixer around, a grand prize will be awarded to the overall 4BB/Damn! Remix Competition 2009 winner – it will be something special for sure! The runner-up will also be handsomely rewarded. Details on all prizes, and the respective sponsors, will be presented separately as we get closer to the deadline!
CONTESTANTS: Everybody’s welcome to participate! All contestants will be presented, and all submitted remixes will be featured on the site – to be enjoyed by everybody. Apart from the winning entry, a couple more of the best remixes will be featured on a freely distributed, digital “Damn! Remix EP” – made available as soon as the competition is over!
